Beach @ Rockport

20" x 30" watercolor on board.  I don't think I've posted this before.   (Maybe I ought to keep track??)  I did it several years ago; the location is a favorite subject mostly because the beach is beautiful, the water always very cold even in August, and I spend far too little time there!  The board got damp in my studio so it has deteriorated and the image is smudged, maybe even has a bit of mold on it.  So, I'll return to Rockport during the summer and make this again and do a better job of storing it, I hope.

Adjustments to a previous post

I bought a new pen at the Guild in Northampton yesterday and went to scene of the original event today (Greenfield Coffee) and made some marks on marks with some success, I think.

Having a difficult time with this

Too tight, bland without any snap, so I'll put it aside for a bit and get back to it later.

Memory in ink

This drawing is so difficult to view that I may decide to remove the post.  I did it today over coffee while sitting in a little lunch spot/cafe. I thought about trying how to adapt my work in oil to this loose, expressive drawing style or technique.  Maybe mix the paint with some medium to dilute it enough that I can easily make similar marks with a brush?  Maybe a little bit of color, too?  We'll have to see what unfolds.

Four Images

If this looks like a confusing array of stuff, well I guess that's just what it is!  Maybe a reflection of how I am working right now.  The top piece represents the work as it was a week ago or so....I decided it needed more color and movement so I've been pushing circular strokes from back to front (so to speak) and maybe I will take a another poor photo of it today for posting later.  Two images down is a detail of the same work from a month ago or so.  The lower ink picture is the "outline" for something I hope to start with oil sometime soon.
Not much progress to report on getting the work seen.  Mostly thinking about that and as everyone knows thought doesn't always convert into action.  I have this crazy notion (I am ashamed to admit) that maybe I'll be found and then I won't have to do anything to get myself into the stream!  And, at the same time I feel like I'm not ready to be "found"!  Oh boy, the conflicts in the painter's inner life!!  Thanks for checking in!

Pushkin Gallery exterior/Main @ Federal in the Paris of Franklin County

Ink on paper
The view, perched on a stool at Greenfield Coffee, across the intersection looking northwest.  I like to joke with some friends and acquaintances that the l'il city of Greenfield has the verve of Paris in the 20's.  Ha!  Makes me laugh anyway!  It is a wonderful place, Greenfield; I'm not slamming it but my recreational reading stimulates my imagination such that I lower a template of Paris over my local grounds and try to search out Modigliani, among others.
