Venus in Transit (Detail)
Mixed Media/Watercolor-Pastel-Charcoal-Graphite
c. 20" x 40"

Three Trees
Pastel on paper
20" x 28"

Short Street
Watercolor on paper
22" x 30"
I began working on the Venus in Transit piece several years ago and it remains an ongoing project. Having just lost my studio space to a local developer (something about where artists go development follows??) I imagine its completion has once again been postponed.

These are from my sketch book. Pen and ink drawings that I have embellished with colored pencil. My scanning skills I guess are evident; have not quite got it down on how to square the image! The two at the top were done while sitting at Cafe Koko on Main Street in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The image to the left is a quick drawing done from the north side of Gloucester Harbor looking toward Rocky Neck, a favorite spot.
I plan to use these images on a series note cards I am in the process of designing.

Beginnings

This is one of the first and one of my favorite figure studies. Still have it in the seemingly ever expanding collection of my own work! Developing a market is project number 1 for me in 2008.

I like the way she seems to "turn". At various times I have have tried to attach a name to the piece but can't seem to settle on anything. "Nude with Red Hair "; "Nicole Seated"; "Nude with Big Ear". A title just doesn't seem all that important and in fact might be telling the viewer how to interpret the image or at the least suggesting that the viewer incorporate the title in the analysis. What do you see?
